August 18, 2020. Ft. Wayne, Indiana. In keeping with its commitment to innovation and safety, as evidenced by the recent introduction of its mobile health/safety stations and its longstanding practice of designing exhibit systems architecture that is third-party certified for structural integrity, Highmark has launched a line of safety shields and partitions to provide students, faculty, and administrators additional health protection as they return to school.

These shield and partition products are made of polycarbonate, which is easy to clean, more durable than acrylic plastic, and more conducive to creating smoother edges for handling. Further, this material allows for dry-erase marker use and a wide range of personalization options through stickers, labels, or logos.

According to vice president of sales, Matt Andrews, "The individual personal shields -- which we're calling the iSHIELD Portable -- are lightweight, fold easily, and have handles so students and teachers can easily carry and deploy them right at their desks, lunch tables, or wherever they're working. We have a variety of table/surface partitions that create sectioned, spatially-distanced work areas for multiple people, an. They can remain stationary at a space or be moved easily where needed. Also, a favorite of teachers is our rolling shield – essentially an 8' tall clear partition window that is framed with our aluminum tubing and has wheels, offering the flexibility to move about and allowing an unobstructed view from teacher to student via the clear see-through screen."

Schools, universities, and other learning/training environments can choose from Highmark's design menu of standard shield designs or request any type of custom need depending on a myriad of considerations from students' ages to physical room space, layout, furniture, and more. Highmark initiates the process by visiting the institution, understanding their needs, and then developing CAD product sketches for standard and custom shields. Once approved by the institution, the shields are cut on the company's CNC routers, packaged, delivered, and, as needed, installed.

"All of us at Highmark are working parents, and we share the same concerns," said Highmark president, Debbie Parrott. "We also believe that face-to-face in-person engagement is so important for learning – be it in a school, community, or business setting. I'd love to think that Highmark is playing a small role in helping schools create an extra layer of protection for students, faculty, and administrators as they physically go back to school, which we're excited about."
