EDPA ACCESS: Pioneering Sustainability in Events

The Experiential Designers and Producers Association (EDPA) is proud to announce its ongoing commitment to sustainability at their annual ACCESS event, setting a new standard for environmentally responsible event planning.

As part of this sustainability commitment, EDPA partnered with Reduce 2 to measure the carbon emissions of this past year’s event to establish a baseline year for future comparisons. The baseline report included recommendations for even greater sustainability and improving data collection to limit assumptions and missing data.

The data presented in the report was based over 340 attendees, including staff, crew, speakers, and entertainers, with a calculated carbon emission of 0.86 metric tons of CO2e per person. This marks the first attempt to quantify the carbon impact of EDPA’s annual meeting.

This past year’s EDPA ACCESS also featured several initiatives aimed at minimizing environmental impact, including:

  • Reusable Water Bottles: significantly reducing the reliance on single-use containers.

  • Digital Collateral: eliminating the need for traditional registration bags and printed agendas.

  • Eco-Friendly Signage: ensuring all necessary signs are printed on eco-friendly materials.

  • Sustainable Food & Beverage: produce from on-site herb garden and locally grown, organic foods to support the local economy.

  • Sustainable Venue: venue achieved the highest Green Key EcoRating of Five Keys.

“EDPA is proud of these initiatives and remains dedicated to continually improving sustainability practices. Together, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and fostering a more sustainable future,” said Jim Obermeyer, Chairman of the EDPA Sustainability Committee.

“At EDPA, our commitment to sustainability is at the forefront of our event planning. For our events, we leverage the Sustainability Guidance for Exhibition Stand Construction to create events that have a positive impact,” added Liz Nacron, who leads the EDPA Event Planning team.

The comprehensive guide, developed in collaboration with EDPA, ESCA, and EIC, aims to elevate and influence sustainable practices across our industry. You can access the guide here: (https://online.flippingbook.com/view/829648536/).
